St. Ann's Year 5 Class Page

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
Psalm 62:5

During the Spring term, the children will be looking at how the Eucharist is celebrated in the Church and how it links to the Jewish feast of Passover. The children will then see how this points forward to Jesus and his death and resurrection.

During Spring term, the children will be looking at the Vikings. Were they really the bloodthirsty warriors that they are often portrayed as, or was there another reason why they came to this country? The children will explore these questions and hopefully come up with a well thought out answer. In science, they will be looking at how the heart works and why it is such an important organ.

Who is in Year 5?

This year, the year 5 teacher will be Mr Cartledge, he will be supported by Mrs Maitland and Mrs Cannell. Other adults will also work with the children to make sure that each of them achieve their potential.

Our aim this year is to prepare children for year 6 and to spot and develop their potential in all areas of the curriculum, whether it be writing, maths, music or sport. We also look to see the children develop socially as well as academically.

What is happening in Year 5?

We would encourage you to read a minimum 4 times a week and a minimum of 10 pages each time with your child, as well as ensuring they complete their TT Rockstars maths homework task. Much of the children's maths work will rely heavily on the children understanding their times tables, so we encourage you to help them to know them off by heart.

Your children will also need help learning their statuatory spellings.
