St. Ann's Year 4 Class Page

Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. - Colossians 3:13

Who is in Year 4?

The Year 4 teacher is Miss Fairclough. She will be supported by Mrs Swift-Bate and Mrs Knight

Year 4 is a busy year group, but it is also very fun and exciting. We will be exploring a range of different topics, as detailed in the termly learning guides which are published on our school website. We are continuing to move the children towards more formal learning and assessment whilst striving to keep a sense of fun and creativity in all that we do. We encourage the children to be more independent and have a real focus in promoting responsibility with their property and their learning.

Welcome to Year 4!

 What are we learning about?

Home Learning

Times table knowledge is vital to succeeding in Maths. In Year 4, children are expected to know all multiplication and division facts for every multiplication table up to 12 x 12 by heart. Current research states that it is more beneficial for children to complete shorter daily practice rather than one longer session a week. Children are expected to complete at least 25 minutes of TT Rockstars at home for their Maths homework – equivalent to 5 minutes each school day - but children are also rewarded for going above expectations. Weekly sessions are set on Monday to be completed by the following Monday.

Reading at home is essential. Your child is expected to read at home a minimum of 3 times a week. This will be recorded in their online Go Read reading record. If your child is at LIME level or above, they can read twice by themselves but the third read must be with an adult. If your child is at WHITE level or below, all three reads must be with an adult.

When listening to your child read, please ask them questions about their book to help develop their love of reading and comprehension skills.

All children also have a Reading Plus or Lexia account – please ensure children are using this program at home. This will count towards their weekly reads.

Children have multiple spelling lessons a week and practice high-frequency words to support their learning. Every 3-4 weeks, the children will bring home a new set of spelling words in their reading records. Please help your child to learn these words at home.
