St Ann's Year 6 Autumn Term 2019

World War 2

As part of our learning about World War 2, we asked the children to complete some home learning over the half term holiday. Lots of them rose to challenge and shared what they had learnt with the rest of the class when we returned to school.

In this term, our learning question will be, "Danger! Danger! Why?"
Our topic will be based around the impact that World War 2 had on Orford and Warrington as part of our local history study. As part of this, we will focus on the wider impact of the war and who were the leaders of the different nations involved.
This will link with our English unit based on the book 'Rose Blanche' and there will be further learning taking place in Science learning about periscopes and how light travels. This is as well as creating our own air raid shelters in DT and Blitz artwork.

We will begin our RE journey by learning about Women in the Bible and focussing on the story of Ruth and Naomi. We will explore the Christian values they displayed and debate whether we would have made the same decision as they did.
During our themed week of 'God's World', we will consider how we can care for God's World more and the impact that human littering has had on the world.

For our Christmas RE learning we will focus on the time of Advent, what it means for Christians and how it is celebrated. We will also think about how Christians around the world celebrate Christmas and the different traditions of nations.
