The learning question that we will explore during the Autumn term will be "Why should the rainforest be important to us all?" Using our focus text 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell, we will be looking closely at rainforests including the location of rainforests around the world and the structure of a rainforest.

We will then focus our learning on the Amazon Rainforest of South America, investigating the human and physical features of a rainforest as well as the impact deforestation is having on these two aspects. As part of our science learning for the term we will investigate life cycles of rainforest animals and also explore how we can classify different rainforest creatures based on their characteristics.

The first RE topic we will explore in Year 6 is 'How and why do Christians read the Bible?' We will be exploring the structure of the Bible, as well as what Christians learn about God and Jesus from reading the Bible and invite vistors into school to talk to the children about why the Bible is important to them. Also, as part of this topic we will be looking at the Sacred Books of Judaism, Islam and Sikhism and comparing and contrasting them to the Bible.

Next, we will explore Ideas about God. In this topic, we will learn about Christian ideas about God, deepening our understanding of the Holy Trinity and encouraging the children to share their own thoughts about God.

Finally, we will be thinking about The Gospels of Matthew and Luke as part of our Christmas RE learning. We will explore how the two gospels retell the nativity story and discuss how this has influenced Christian beliefs.
