Year 4 Autumn Term 2018

The first learning question that we will explore will be "What makes the Earth angry?" Using our focus text 'The Firework Maker's Daughter' by Phillip Pullman, we will be looking closely at volcanoes, including the location of volcanoes around the world and the structure of a volcano. We will also look at natural disasters, such as Earthquakes, and the devastating consequences they have.

We will then move onto discussing  "Who were the Romans and what did they do for us?" We will talk about the Roman Empire and how Britain was invaded by different Roman leaders. We will be looking at the different Roman rulers and the different Roman Gods that people used to believe in, and learn all about significant individuals such as Boudicca and her revolt. Our focus text will be 'Escape from Pompeii' by Christina Balit.

Our first RE topic is Harvest. We will be looking at Christian harvest and exploring the reasons a Christian celebrates this festival. We will then learn about the Jewish celebration of Sukkot and compare the two festivals.

We will then study David. We will learn about important Christian values in the stories of David and think about what we can learn about God from the psalms David wrote.

Finally, we will be thinking about how God is present at Christmas time and how Christians show His presence in the world.
